Brendan Kiely author

Brendan Kiely is The New York Times bestselling author of All American Boys (with Jason Reynolds), Tradition, The Last True Love Story, and The Gospel of Winter. His most recent book is The Other Talk: Reckoning with Our White Privilege. His work has been published in over a dozen languages, and has received the Coretta Scott King Author Honor Award, the Walter Dean Meyers Award, and ALA’s Top Ten Best Fiction for Young Adults. A former high school teacher, he is now on the faculty of the Solstice MFA Program. He watches too much basketball and reads too many books at the same time, but most importantly, he lives for and loves his wife and son.


Meg Davis Roberts Assistant Professor of Adolescence English Education in the School of Education at SUNY New Paltz

Meg is our morning speaker. She is interested in how educators are shaped as people through the teaching of literature and poetry. Meg currently works with the Hudson Valley Writing Project, the New York State English Council, and the English Language Arts Teacher Educators Commission on the Teaching of Poetry.

  • Engage effectively in collaborative discussions.
  • Analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take.
  • Assess how point of view or purpose shapes the content and style of a text.
  • Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
  • Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
  • Analyze how and why individuals, events, or ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.

  • 11:25 am - 12:25 pm: Book Discussion Groups: 2nd Session
  • 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Lunch and book sales
  • 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Author Presentation
  • 2:30 pm: Closing

Registration

You can purchase books with your registration to have them signed by Brendan Kiely on October 24. A limited number of books may be available for sale at Fall Into Books, but prices will be higher than they are here.

If you have a discount code for your system, it does not include the price of the books.

In order to ensure the most rewarding exchange of ideas, participants are expected to read all of their pre-assigned titles.  

Confirmation of group assignments will be e-mailed upon receipt of payment. 

NOTE: You are not fully registered until you have received an email confirmation with your assigned discussion group.  If you have not received an email confirmation by Friday, October 1, 2024, public librarians should contact RCLS or MHLS; school librarians contact your respective school library system.
